Poem-A-Day Challenge & Question

Ok, I've already warned you that this is the start of National Poetry Month! So Today is the day to decide whether you are crazy enough to join me in the Poem-A-Day challenge.

For a complete list of rules, go here to Poetic Asides.

Here's the basics:

It runs from April 1 to April 30.

If you are interested in the eBook portion of the challenge, you must post your poems under the correct prompts at Poetic Asides, though poems can be written on days before or after the prompt day.

If you just want to complete the challenge, you must post a poem in the comments at Poetic Asides on the correct prompt for all 30 days to receive the "certificate and badge" for proud display on your blog, etc.

There is no special registration or fee for this challenge, though I'd love it if a bunch of you left your willingness to participate statement in my comments.

Also if you are interested in writing poems over a 30-day period for the month, you can check out NaPoWriMo.

Need some help with poetry writing, there is a great sale going on at Writer's Digest for all the poetry writing books they have. 20% off. Check it out, here.

On a side note, I've been thinking about this a lot lately.

Do any of you bloggers read poetry books and review them?

How often do you review them?

Or do you want to review poetry collections?

I've been thinking about making a list and posting it somewhere on this blog to collect the site names and contact information of bloggers interested in reviewing poetry books.

If you want to be on this list, please email me your URL, name, and preferred contact information.

I have to be in a very contemplative mood to read poetry. I read a lot of it college but not much since then. As for writing it...that is really not where my gifts lie.

Its all good. I just wanted to drum up interest. I'm just doing it for fun because I really take a lot of time to polish my work...so this will give me a ton of rough drafts to work with.

You can put me on the poetry reviewer list. I'm not always in the mood for poetry, but I'm always looking for some good new poetry to read.

As for the poem a day thing, I think I'll have to pass this time. My computerlessness is making it hard for me to keep up with everything else I have going on. :( I hope you have fun with it, though.

I will put you on the list...lol I think you should take pen to paper and write a poem...at least a couple times this month!

I recently reviewed an anthology that had three poems in it but I think that's it. I don't read very much poetry, sorry :(

Hey Serena! Put me on your list, please. I like reading poetry. I have read and reviewed one anthology so far this year and have a few more to go. I also like writing poetry but I am not sure I have the consistency to do one a day.

I read poetry every now and then (used to a lot more) but haven't written in ages and I normally don't review it (although I just accepted an offer.). But it might be fun to try. It's the sort of thing I feel like I'd need an English degree to do though!:-)

Poetry really isn't my thing. Although I think I may check out what you're writing over at the challenge.

Good luck!

I think that reviewing and writing poetry is not something that needs an English degree...its like reading fiction...the more you read it the more you know what you like.

So far, I have Anna and rebecca for the list.

Marie did you want to be added to the list too?

Rebecca: I think if you just write a few times a month, that would be ok...anything to celebrate the month.

What a cool challenge you are taking on! I used to write poetry but haven't felt the pull of it in a while so I won't be participating in the challenge but I will probably drop in to see the prompts. Maybe that will get me going again :)

Iliana: I welcome everyone to give it a try even if its only a rough draft.

I don't review as much poetry as I could; I often read one or two poems from a collection and don't really feel qualified to say much about it. But this month I'll be sharing some of my favourites each day -- by others, not by me! :)

I dont usually review poetry, I really have to be in a reflective mood to read it. Then I dont feel like i'd be able to give them justice if I reviewed poems.

I don't think this is for me ... I'm more of a haiku or limerick type of person but I think it is such a good fit for you! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Jenners: I would love to see some of your limericks and haiku. I think you should join the challenge.

What a great challenge, Serena! Isn't PAD a lot of pressure?!?

I've read the 3 poems you've posted so far ... fantastic!

Dawn: I find it challenging. I tried to do it last year, but it didn't go so well. This year I am determined to do all 30 days. We'll see how well it goes. I hope everyone enjoys the poems, even if they are rough drafts.
