Mailbox Monday #34

Welcome to an edition of Mailbox Monday, sponsored by The Printed Page, on Sunday! Yes, I have a book tour scheduled for Monday, so you get to see my little stash today instead.

I've also got a treat for you as well . . . a picture of the line outside the Germantown Library Sale.

Ok, so these are the books that came in the mail:

1. The Girl Who Stopped Swimming by Joshilyn Jackson, which I won from Diary of an Eccentric

2. The Tudor Rose by Margaret Campbell Barnes, which I received from Sourcebooks for review in October.

3. Sacred Hearts by Sarah Dunant, which I received from Shelf Awareness for review in July.

The local Germantown, Md., library has book sales pretty often, usually about once per month. June 13 was the latest book sale that Anna, The Girl, and I swooped into to get some good books. $1 for hardcover, 50 cents for paperback, and kids hardcovers were 50 cents, and kids paperbacks were 25 cents. The last book sale we went to, we arrived after 10 AM, and the sale began at 9 AM. We decided to get there when it opened to see if there were better books at that hour. Well, we got there and found a line already had formed before 8:50 AM. Crazy. I took a shot with the camera phone.

Here's what I got at the library sale:

4. Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro

5. Great Cases of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle--a collection with gold-edged pages and a nearly pristine, green hard cover.

6. A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

7. Stone Cold by David Baldacci

8. Audition: A Memoir by Barbara Walters; this one is for my mom, who loves biographies.

9. In Retrospect: The Tragedy and Lessons of Vietnam by Robert S. McNamara

10. Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

11. We Were Soldiers Once . . . and Young by Lt. Gen. Harold G. Moore and Joseph L. Galloway

Oooh, I love library sales! Ours only has one big one in the summer and it's not often enough. There are a million books in a huge room and the sale lasts about a week. They did put up a bookcase in the main lobby last year for used books that they sell all year so that helps. I've found (too many) great deals.

It looks like you found some terrific books. It must have been a fun day. Enjoy!

Library sales are the best! I'm not surprised there is a line. I loved both The Kite Runner and Thousand Splendid Suns, as well as Never Let Me Go. Excellent collection this week!

That is a lot of good looking books. I have several of them myself (Never Let Me Go and A Thousand Splendid Suns) and actually, I also just got The Girl Who Stopped Swimming from Amazon. Loved her first one (Gods in Alabama), wasn't too fond of her secon one (Between Georgia) but looking forward to this one!

Wow, that must be some book sale. My mom would love the Barbara Walters book too. I read We Were Soldier Once . . . and Young several years ago because the author lived in the same town we did at the time. The book is powerful - I learned a lot from it - but not an easy read.

That's a serious book sale you guys have going on! Bridget and I checked out a bag sale on Friday -- it was almost entirely romance (mostly category) or religious. Odd combination!

Wow, that's a line, alright! =) I need to find out if my library has a big sale like that... After I clear out my TBR pile!

I loved The Kite Runner & A Thousand Splendid Suns. Really want to read Never Let Me Go... I'll look forward to your reviews.

Wow, what a great load of books. WE always have library sales here but they're downtown and parking down there is a nightmare so I don't often go. Have fun reading all these books!

I've missed the big sale in Ann Arbor twice now ((sigh)). You have to arrive early. Bring your own bags. Have a strategy. It's crazy mad but folks are friendly.

You made out well. Happy reading.

I enjoyed both Khaled Hosseini books -THE KITE RUNNER is more from the male perspective, where A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS has more female main characters. Interesting to see the relationships develop in each.

Enjoy your new books ... that's some line you stood in to get them!

People love to get a good deal! And, it looks like you made out like a bandit.

I can't wait to hear about The Tudor Rose. It sounds like a great historical fiction.
